OUR SPEAKERS
Dr. Aaron Lasker graduated Magna cum laude from Brown University with a degree in neuroscience, completed his medical education at Tufts University School of Medicine, and completed neurology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the Harvard Neurology Program, where he served as chief resident. He went on to complete a joint fellowship in movement disorders and cognitive neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Following graduation he worked as the division director of the Movement Disorders Center at St Luke’s University in Allentown PA where he conducted research on mindfulness meditation in Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Lasker was recruited to the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 where he now serves as director of the Huntington’s disease Center of Excellence and is a palliative care champion in the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center. He is also a member of the International Neuropalliative care society where he sits on a patient education committee.
Dr. Allan Cole is Deputy to the President for Societal Challenges and Opportunities at The University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as a professor in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and, by courtesy, as a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Dell Medical School. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016, at the age of 48, he is the author or editor of many books on a range of topics related to bereavement, anxiety, and spirituality. His latest book is Counseling Persons with Parkinson's Disease (Oxford University Press) and his next book, Discerning the Way: Lessons from Parkinson’s Disease (Cascade), will be published in late 2021, as will his first book of poetry, titled In the Care of Plenty: Poems (Resource Publications).
