EVENT INFO: When we hear music of all sorts, it naturally makes us want to move. From our favorite slow dance in high school to our "road trip" playlist, music is motivating and engaging. This music therapy program offers physical-therapy-based exercises that are specifically tailored for individuals with neurologic challenges, like Parkinson's Disease. Music helps us to not only move more but move efficiently, all within an enjoyable experience.
Brittany Barko Krugger, M.M., MT-BC, NMT is a neurologic music therapist native to Erie, who specializes in populations with developmental and neurological needs. She is a contract therapist with Lake Erie Music Therapy, LLC, and provides music therapy services in rehab hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, in office, and in-home visits for adults and children. Brittany teaches voice, piano, and guitar classes at Mercyhurst University to music therapy students, where she was the first graduate of the program in 2013.
Brittany's passion for music therapy stems from her roots in music ministry and music education. Since 2000, Brittany has served as a liturgical musician, where she is currently Director of Liturgical Music at Mercyhurst University. Brittany has also enjoyed providing private piano/voice/guitar/ukulele lessons over the years to all ages, both in PA and MI. When not making music, she enjoys gardening, backcountry hiking, and cast iron-cooking with her husband.
This program is generously sponsored by Abbott!
For patients with Parkinson’s, Abbott’s DBS therapy has been shown to provide a better quality of life than treatment with medication alone. It has shown to give patients with Parkinson’s disease good quality “on time” for the majority of their waking hours and reduce Parkinson’s disease progression.
Over 120,000 Patients have undergone DBS surgery. 95.5% would recommend DBS Therapy to others. Abbott’s Infinity DBS System removes the worry and burden that comes with a rechargeable device, giving patients back 11 DAYS per year they would spend charging other devices.
